Amsterdam Coffee Shops
Tweede Kamer Coffeeshop
Going to Amsterdam and not visiting at least one coffeeshop is a little like seeing Paris but skipping the Eiffel Tower. Its famous coffeehouses are part of what sets Amsterdam apart and makes it such as special (and fun) city to visit. But if you haven't been to the city before, it can be difficult to know which coffehouses deserve a visit. You don't want to end up in a dumpy dive, but nor do you want to get stuck with a tourist trap.
If you're looking for a high-quality, welcoming coffeeshop that caters to both tourists and locals the Tweede Kamer might be a good choice. Just the name, which refers to a house in the Dutch parliament, gives an idea of what the place is like: cheeky, friendly, and a lot of fun.
Tweede Kamer Coffeehouse is owned by the same people as Dampkring. It's a very popular hangout with the locals, which is always a good sign when visiting a place in a new city. And something about the place seems to breed friendliness. The locals here are friendly and welcoming to tourists, and may even strike up a conversation. It's a great way to while away an afternoon. The seats are surprisingly uncomfortable, but the list of products is exceedingly long, and they even have one or two items for very cheap if you want to buy your weed on a budget, such as a Thai marijuana for 3 per gram. This is where the experts shop for their marijuana, and it attracts a slightly older crowd than a lot of coffeehouses. This can be a welcome change.
The staff at Tweede Kamer is very friendly, and welcomes tourists to take photos and even take a copy of the menu, something which most coffeehouses prohibit. A coffeehouse menu can be a great souvenir of your trip.
