Amsterdam Canal and Bus Tours

Amsterdam is a city based completely on sea trade. Because of that, the structure of the city was built on the concept of transportation of goods via the water. And while this was very useful in its time, now Amsterdam's canals go mostly unused but are one of the many things that make the city so appealing to visitors.

Unlike some other waterway cities, Amsterdam itself is clean and well-cared-for, and the many canals give Amsterdam a picturesque loveliness that you won't find anywhere else even in Venice, where the canals are dirty and rather smelly. One of the best things you can do in Amsterdam in good weather is go on a walk along the canals, crossing the many lovely bridges in the city and enjoying the wonderful views down the long waterways.

Another great way to enjoy Amsterdam's canals is via a canal tour. There are several canal tours operating in the city, and, in general, they're pretty similar. A canal tour will run you about 12-15 euros, depending on the company, and will last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. With all the walking you'll probably be doing on your visit, a canal tour can be a great way to take a break you just sit back and enjoy the ride and the beautiful views of Amsterdam.

If you enjoy spending time on the canals, you may want to think about getting tickets for the Canal Bus. You can buy full day tickets for the Canal Bus, which will allow you to hop on and hop off at any of the 14 stops throughout the city. The Canal Bus Runs from 10:00am to 8:30pm, and stops at most of the major museums and sites along the canals.

If you're thinking about taking a canal tour or two, you may want to consider picking up an I-Amsterdam card. The card gives you a free canal tour with two major touring companies, as well as a discount for the Canal Bus.
